Since few years ago when we released the 1st 19 inch Flow Form Wheel for the Canadian market, the idea of designing the lightest possible 18 inch wheels for competition/track use had always been brought up and discussed at Team Superspeed.
Now after a full year of hard working, brainstorming, fighting over each other, designing and redesigning, we are confident to say that we have accomplished 80% of what we were trying to achieve. In the beginning, there were more than 10 sketches laying on the table; we picked a few with neat, classic, competition designs and started to work on details. We got into every possible details to save the weight and in the same time maintain the rigidity of the wheel. We've looked into setting up unique spoke angles to keep the idea concave look/offset and in the same time to cut back-pack thickness; we've also looked into shaving weight with "Cup Pocket" and "Back Pad Pocket". Everything is in the details - something we never compromise.
We were all excited when the 1st batch of RF03RR arrived. Some of our customers were more hyped than us. We visited one of our dealers that has a customer to put a set of fresh RF03RR for track use with brand new Pirelli Trofeo R for his Honda Civic Type R (FK8) and took some pictures.
We did some comparisons with his current setup. Prior to changing to RF03RR, the FK8 was equipped with ENKEI RPF1. We weighted it 43.9 lbs with tire.
Then we weighted the RF03RR with the same tire. The outcome was outstanding - 0.2 lbs less than the most well-known lightweight wheel in the market.
18x8.5 +40 5x120 ENKEI RPF1............................... 18.3 lbs
18x8.5 +35 5x120 Superspeed RF03RR.................. 18.1 lbs; MSRP $249 CAD ea.
Despite the fact that we already knew that RF03RR would be lighter, nonetheless we were all thrilled when we see the result. That meaning we have accomplished one huge milestone of this project. Especially when we were able to price this model in an more affordable range than our competitors.
Back to the car - this FK8 was equipped with 18x8.5 +35 5x120 RF03RR Matt Black (Face 1- Concave). There's another option of 18x9.5 +35 5x120 available for FK8 application (18.7 lbs ea., Face 2 - Deep Concave).
The mesh design of RF03RR is quite in tune with OE Brembo 4-piston brake caliper.
This Honda Type R is track ready with meaty Pirelli Trofeo R tires.
We asked our dealer to put one set with Titanium finish to see what chemical reaction would it have for the CTR.
The Titanium finish has a gunmetal colour base, with metallic gloss layer on top. It added a sense of urban style to the application when comparing to the combat style of Matt Black finish.
One of the factors that embedded in our designing philosophy is to have multiple specifications for different vehicle applications. For RF03RR we have 18x8.5 to 18x9.5 from 5x100 to 5x120 applications that cover up most of the performance sports cars on the market. Click here to direct to product page.
